A small HeroAca edit to 'Stars' by Arrows to Athens. I started this waaay back in July as a potential birthday edit for Angie, but I didn't go with it, and then I lay all the clips a little after, and then I just left it for several months, but season 4 has started this weekend, so I finished this up because I love this show! It's pretty simple, I didn't have the energy to add text... I'm in a bit of editing rut, I'm struggling editing things that aren't parts, which is a bummer because I actually have time. Hopefully I get out of that soon, I have a lot things I want to edit. (Like His Dark Materials. My brain is consumed with HDM at the moment.)

Happy New Years Eve/Happy New Year! Cant believe the year and the decade is over... I dont know about anyone else, but 2019 zoomed by for me. Heres a round up of the MEP parts that came out in November and December. Overall, I think my editing has improved a fair bit over the year, particularly where live action is concerned, and I think Im beginning to get my still image mojo back, but my lack of inspiration shows in some of these. Anyways, not really sure what lies in store in 2020, but editing and the friends Ive made through it continued to be a highlight in 2019, and I hope that stays the same, and that everyone has a good year!

The theme for this WORM was a song that makes you feel nostalgic, and I have a memory of dancing to this song at a school disco when I was, like, four so ever since this song just reminds me of childlike fun when you have no worries. This was supposed to be with Young Avengers because I normally edit them for New Year, but I struggled for inspiration so I switched to the Bat Fam, which was fun because I havent edited them in ages. I keep meaning to make a proper edit, but I just havent had the inspiration to get round to it. Maybe in 2020!

Im really happy with how this one turned out! Its my favourite of this collection, even though its quite old, and I had a ton of fun making it. I always love editing Black Cat.

I never get tired of editing Bruce and Jason, and I thought Alexander and Eliza Hamilton fit this song really well too as Burn is one of my favourite songs on the soundtrack (and First Burn). Fun fact, I wrote most of my dissertation to Hamilton (and some other musicals, but that one of the most) because for some reason it got me focused and pumped to write about kings and knights in medieval English literature. And it worked really well!

Ughhh, this part gave me such a headache. Jack was the fourth character that I tried using. It was supposed to be with Billy, but my Young Avengers block continues. Im still not 100% happy with this, there are bits that I like, but overall I just wish it were better because the whole MEP is SO good! Go watch it!

I did not know what to do with this song, but I thought the lyrics really fit Jeremy and the Squip, especially because I played Pitiful Children a lot during that dissertation writing, and in the end, I managed to shape it into an alright part.

I cant quite believe we pulled off an almost 6 minute MEP to these songs. The MEP is a crazy trip, I recommend it! I also highly recommend watching Dark (and obviously HDM, I actually signed up for the part before the series even started and crossed my fingers for the best, and then got swept away in excitement. XD). Darks a German language TV show on Netflix, and it is REALLY good, although very, very confusing. Its hard to describe the show without giving away spoilers, but if you like slow, dark sci-fi youll probably enjoy it! Also, ending my editing year how it is almost certainly going to start in 2020, with His Dark Materials! XD")

Ooo boy, that was a long month. Not a whole lot of editing happened because I was busy with my dissertation, most of these are from the end of August/beginning of September, but now that Im done and between things I got a burst of inspiration and am really enjoying editing! I really wanna get some personal projects up, but Im having a much easier time starting things than I am finishing...

Im really happy with how these parts, and the whole MEP, turned out! I got inspired to do a comic book-esque aesthetic, largely from the Elevate MEP, which I left a link to above because it looks AMAZING, but I dont have the Fx skills to pull it off properly, but Im happy with what I managed to do!

I had a lot of fun making this, even though Ive only seen the first episode of the anime. I was very excited when I got you and you had this anime listed because Ive been meaning to watch it for ages, so I planned to binge the whole thing before editing, but then after finishing editing I decided to just go ahead and start, and then just didnt make any further headway with the anime. XD

So 5 years ago today, I started my channel! It both feels like a very long time ago, and not that long at all. Ive seen a lot of people doing things along these lines, and I was tempted to do one too, but a lot of people have also been editing for, like, 10+ years, so I was really sure if it was worth doing one for what seemed like a short time of 5, but boxedkat encouraged me to do one too, and as I had the anniversary coming up, I thought it was the perfect time!
24th Jan 2015 (0:00) – 20th Sept 2015 = So, I started off editing with ATLA in this trial version of Powerdirector that had just come with my laptop. Apparently I uploaded two edits on the first day. I have no idea why because Savin’ Me is really bad. I remember I didn’t know where to get footage so I used screen caps, but I must have found clips not that long later? I don’t know what 2015 me was doing. Anyway, Powerdirector (or the trial version at least) was pretty limited, I couldn’t even fade out, and I couldn’t work out how to use the transitions. There were also very limited text options, as you can see. The Damian Wayne video is also one of the most popular edits I’ve ever made and is probably the first one that’s even halfway decent, largely because of the intro, I think it’s the only good bit.
3rd Oct 2015 (1:33) – 23rd Jan 2016 = I got Movavi video editor 10! I’m the only editor that I know that used that program, and it was pretty simple, but I really liked it. Mostly I was just excited I could fade out. The edits I made around this time are the backbone of my channel, especially Remember the Name, which is the most popular edit I will ever make ever. (It’s currently got 1.6 million views which, like, what, that’s ridiculous! XD) Here I started to learn how to do basic things, like, All This Time I figured out how to crossfade, Last Time was my first real go at typography, and by We Are Golden I’d gotten used to transitions and was starting to use some effects.
14th Feb 2016 (2:35) – 26th Sep 2016 = My first real go at still image! I actually made that on WMM because I remember my laptop was broken, so I was borrowing my mum’s to write my essays, and she only had WMM, and I must have just really wanted to learn how to edit comics so I made that! I was back on Movavi for Apologise where I was really focusing on learning how to edit to the beats and not just to lyrics like I always had before. Then I started learning to do things like use chroma masks, One That Got Away was my first attempt to use fanart, Everybody Talks I was trying out using a lot more transitions and beginning to explore typography again. I started editing Marvel, and Shut Up and Dance is probably the first edit that I have on my channel that I like all the way through. Ships in the Night was my BFLS audition, and E.T. was the first MEP part I ever made. Colours was when I started realising I could do a little more with Movavi than I thought and started to get more ambitious. I figured out I could pan and use transitions on text if I turned the text into green screen masks. Looks So Perfect is in here because I find it retrospectively funny that I was so scared of live action I used screen caps instead of the film. Then Wrapped Up was my first real attempt at FX editing in all of it’s awkward glory.
2nd Oct 2016 (5:24) – 14th Feb 2017 = I got Movavi 11, but I stayed editing in 10 as my main software because whilst 11 had more effects (like the overlays on What Hurts the Most), it gave me a lot less freedom. I couldn’t have infinity tracks, and text had to go on specific tracks, and it annoyed the hell out of me. I was trying to improve my FX and typography, particularly in my Closer and 2016 Shipmas edits. They mostly didn’t work, but I’d decided the only way I was going to get anywhere was if I tried, and Lisa was kind enough to let me into LIL off the back of Heartbreak Coverup where I made a lot of editing friends. I also briefly used a very ugly overlay as colouring because I couldn’t really use colouring in Movavi.
24th Feb 2017 (6:58) – 9th Aug 2017 = I finally moved onto Sony Vegas Pro 14! I really struggled with the transition so I started off doing the editing in Movavi and then adding text/overlays/transitions in Vegas, which is what I did for Stay and Black Magic. The Street Fight MEP part was the first thing I made just in Vegas, and Hit Me Up the first proper edit. It didn’t start looking okay until I Choose You. I actually found it a lot easier to edit still image than animation initially (large because I didn’t have the crossfade option on) so that didn’t start getting alright until Die Young. By Now and Something Just Like This was my first time doing an editing contest, which was fun, and By Now I was trying to edit stylistically, which I don’t normally do and kind of suck at. Glitter and Gold was my first go at editing in that voiceover/sfx style, and Sassy was me trying to do FX animation.

This was such a cool theme idea, and the outcome was super fun. My favourite thing about this is that I dont think a single one of these picrews has the same skin colour, the joys of being an unspecified shade of beige!

Not in my usual style, but Ive been wanting to edit in this instagram kinda style for a while, and given Ive been struggling with editing still-image (theres a large gap between what I want to do, and what I can, and I dont feel like Im improving), now seemed like a good time to do it, and I decided to go all in and add the woosh-y noises and try a plot-twist style audio edit.
Major inspirations for this were E Stac and xjentaime. Theyre both much, much better than I am at this style, but I had a lot of fun watching their edits and trying to work out how to do them.

My parts for BFLS I Can Do Anything mep, using Champions and then Bette Kane (Flamebird) and Kate Kane (Batwoman). I cant believe that Ive never edited with Champions before given that its got Kamala, Miles, Sam and Scott in it, who I love. That parts a bit iffy, though, like, its starts good (Im proud of the CD thing), but by the end its kind of meh. I like the second part better. Im on a sudden, unexpected Batwoman part spree, like this is the third one Ive made in a month! Also very happy to use Bette because, well, she never gets edited with.
