The heart-warming moment a police officer serenaded an elderly blind woman at her home has been caught on his body-worn camera.

Officer Kristian Johnson was called to the home of Shirley Hardman in Utah, US, amid fears her beeping microwave could cause a kitchen fire.

It came a month after Ms Hardman’s kitchen was destroyed when her oven caught on fire.

Mr Johnson quickly arrived at her home where he cleared the error on the microwave’s display and made sure it was operating correctly. He then asked if there was “anything else he could do”, to which Ms Hardman asked if he could sing.

The footage shows him say: “No, I don’t, I’m not a good singer."

She replies: “You could start now.”

The officer then changes his mind and asks what she would like to hear, before launching into a rendition of 'You are my Sunshine'.
He later told Fox News Utah: “I realised right then and there that she expects a song, and I can’t say no to this lady.”

Ms Hardman added: “I couldn’t stand for him to just come and turn off the microwave and go home, so I just felt we needed to communicate a little further, so I invited him to sing and by gob he did.

“He was so pleasant and he had such a nice voice — he stood there and sang it beautifully.”
