As it’s summer here, let’s pop down under for an interview with Bob McCoskrie, founder and Chief Executive of Family First New Zealand. Bob set up Family First nearly 20 years ago to challenge what he saw as an imbalance in New Zealand’s media by providing voices that are “unapologetically conservative”. His organisation isn’t shy about tackling tough topics head-on, including controversial sexuality education in schools, radical gender ideology, abortion, euthanasia, and the legalisation of same-sex marriage. Facing fierce opposition, Family First remains steadfast in its mission to uphold traditional marriage and protect children from harmful ideologies.
Marriage in New Zealand is under serious threat, Bob warns, pointing out the dramatic drop in marriage rates and its stark consequences: increased poverty, child abuse, and imprisonment. He doesn’t mince words, noting that as marriage rates decrease, families are formed without “the glue of marriage” and so “are likely to struggle”.
Even losing charitable status after a drawn-out battle that went all the way to New Zealand’s Supreme Court hasn’t fazed Bob. Far from being discouraged, he confidently asserts, “the shackles are off… our funding’s gone up, so all good”. Bob’s determination shines through in his relentless campaign for common sense – including the ongoing battle to have “woman” legally defined as “an adult human female”.
