I collect the star Footrace with Koopa the Quick in Bob-omb Battlefield without using the joystick. This is TAS.
When I first routed this star, I had assumed that there was no way to legitimately beat Koopa the Quick without the joystick. Thus, my plan was to place a bowling ball clone on the path to stall Koopa the Quick, finish the race, go back down to spawn some bowling balls to free Koopa the Quick, then go back up the mountain to collect the star. And so, that's what I ended up doing. However, going back down the mountain turned out to be unnecessary, since Koopa the Quick receives a speed boost once Mario finishes the race, and this boost was enough to allow Koopa the Quick to clear the bowling ball clone. Anyway, I ended up completing the race so fast that I realized I didn't need the bowling ball clone at all. Thus, I then redid the strat without the bowling ball clone. However, I thought both strats were pretty cool, so I decided to release 2 videos: one video showing the strat with the bowling ball clone (this video), and one video showing the strat without the bowling ball clone (youtu.be/JnmC3HEkDuI).

I go over the 23 remaining A presses of the 120 star ABC run, as well as several other ABC details. As of today (August 28th, 2018), the 120 star ABC run takes 23 A presses, consisting of 18 unique A presses. The run is planned for the original Japanese Nintendo 64 version, as this is the version that minimizes the total A press count.

Note: I said there are 18 unique A presses. However, the exact number of unique A presses actually depends on what strat TTC Stomp on the Thwomp uses. If it uses the still setting strat, then it uses 5 new unique A presses. If it uses the random setting strat, then it uses 4 new unique A presses and 1 already-accounted-for unique A press. Since the still setting strat is the fastest strat, this is what is planned to be used in the final run, and so this is what I used when counting the number of unique A presses.

I collect the star The Pit and the Pendulums and re-enter Tick Tock Clock using 1 A press and without using a preset HOLP. This strat can only be done on the Japanese version of the game. This is TAS.
This star/re-entry was already 1x (https://youtu.be/3UW5KSvtBcU), but the strat relied on a preset HOLP. Now, I show that we can do it with the same amount of A presses but without relying on a preset HOLP. The reason that this matters goes as follows: Entering TTC usually requires an A press. However, reentering TTC after collecting a star can be done 0x for 3 of the 6 stars, namely Stop Time for Red Coins, The Pit and the Pendulums, and Get a Hand. When we reenter TTC like this, we dont have an opportunity to explore the castle between the 2 stars, since dismounting from the top of the clock would cost an A press. And without the ability to explore the castle, we cant go to another course to set up the HOLP. Lets define a session as sequentially collecting 1 or more stars in TTC without the ability to explore the castle in between. Consequently, each session only gets one preset HOLP, used on the first star (assuming that star updates the HOLP). All subsequent stars in the session must not rely on a preset HOLP, since we dont have access to the castle immediately before that star. If there were no 0x reentries, then each TTC star would be in its own session, and so each star could have its own preset HOLP. In that case, wed have 6 sessions of 1 star each. But in actuality, we have 3 0x reentries. Each 0x reentry effectively combines 2 sessions into 1, since it removes the ability to explore the castle in between the 2 stars. So with 3 0x reentries in total, this reduces the number of sessions from 6 to 3. For example, we might do a session of 4 stars, then a session of 1 star, then a session of 1 star. Therefore, we can only afford to use preset HOLPs for up to 3 stars in TTC, namely for the star at the start of each session. Before today, 5 of the 6 stars in TTC used a preset HOLP in their ABC video, which is more than the allowed 3. And so, in order to consider the A press counts we have today as being legitimate, its necessary to show that some of these 5 stars in TTC dont actually need a preset HOLP. Specifically, today I show that the following 3 stars dont actually require a preset HOLP: Roll into the Cage 0x, The Pit and the Pendulums & Re-Enter 1x, and Timed Jumps on Moving Bars 1x. Thus, only 2 remaining stars still require a preset HOLP, namely Get a Hand & Re-Enter 0.5x and Stomp on the Thwomp 2x, which is below the allowed 3. TL;DR We were using more preset HOLPs than we could afford, and now we arent.
