War ship VS Whirlpool! who will win!?
Maelstroms are just powerful whirlpools, yes. The damage depends on what gets caught and how strong the vortex is. Though, on one Mythbusters (really the only thing i can get a source from) most aren't very powerful and can't do damage. Though, if you've ever seen pirates of the Caribbean, and there were whirlpools like that, then ships could be sucked in and destroyed. Whirlpools can also cause drowning if your stuck in one.
