I got a question regarding whether the crop factor should actually be the diagonals and not just the width. In this video I explain that it is yes and no.
Basically, yes, diagonals gives you the more accurate representation of the entire sensor which is more important if you are using the full sensor. However, since videos are generally done within an aspect ratio such as 17:9 or 16:9, shorthand using the width tends to work just fine for calculating the look you will get when comparing video.
In this video you will see that the calculations for 17:9, the full use of the BMPCC4K sensor without cropping, will be the same as if you just used the width.
