Blur backgrounds of vertical iMovie clips @KurtPapke

Get rid of the black bars on each side of a vertical (portrait) video or photo. I show how to do this with iMovie, but the same process would work with any video editor that can interpolate up lower resolution video clips.
Creating the background with a still image/frame from the video requires no additional software. If you want the background to be a blurred version of a video, you'll need to have VLC or Handbrake:
