Traditionally my last railway event of the year, the Bluebell Railway's Giants of Steam gala took an extra special theme this year, gathering together all four new-build steam locomotives for the first time as part of the year of railway festivities for the Rail 200 celebrations.
Weather was dreadful but it didn't detract at all from the event, and it was certainly one to remember.
Locomotives featured, in order of construction:
- LNER Peppercorn A1 No. 60163 "Tornado", completed 2008
- GWR 2900 'Saint' Class No. 2999 "Lady of Legend", completed 2019
- GWR 6800 'Grange' Class No. 6880 "Betton Grange", completed Spring 2024
- LBSCR H2 No. 32424 “Beachy Head”, completed Summer 2024
