Just a quick illustration to show a ball can have a visible flat horizon, and at the same time obstruction. The ball I use only has a radius of 25cm, a much better demonstration by Movie Vertigo using a globe with a radius of 150cm youtube.com/watch?v=aMY9Vd8Ym5Q

$Why is the bottom part of Turning Torso behind water? Two hour timelapse of the view to Turning Torso over 21km, starts at 1:14 . No sign of varying refraction or mirages. Still the bottom part 22m is obscured by water, while observing from 0.8m.
