The Controlled Demolition Inc. team, experts in building implosions, loads more than 1,000 pounds of explosives to bring down the vintage New Frontier Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Parallax Film Productions details this explosive demolition mission.
The historic 16-storey tower, the second property to open on the Las Vegas Strip, must be imploded to make way for an $8 billion Plaza megaresort. Mark Loizeaux and his crew descend on the structure and have only a few days to prep for the Blowdown. With the Trump International Hotel and other glitzy landmarks close by, the crew must use their explosive power wisely. It's demolition engineering, Vegas-style complete with a pre-implosion fireworks display.
The New Frontier was the Vegas Strip's first theme casino. It also hosted Elvis Presley's debut in the city. The casual gambling hall, which opened as the Last Frontier in 1942 with a Wild West cowboy theme, was best known for bikini bull riding, cheap hotel rooms and $5 craps table.
