Loving the beautiful artistry by Bug Robbins!! After this video, I chatted with Bug, and it was nice to see all the beautiful meanings behind EVERYTHING in this collection. Yes, there are SIGNIFICANT meanings to everything! See below, which was copied from Bug's Instagram: instagram.com/bugwithapen/. Ps. the blue leaves is because they like blue (lol):

"Love you, Bestie"
Long before starbucks jumped on the train of our gay beverage of choice- lavender (the color) was associated with Sappho (the queer greek poet) and her violets (another post on that soon). Abraham Lincoln’s biographer Carl Sandburg described Lincoln as having a “streak of lavender, and spots as soft as violets.” This was meant as a slight, asserting queerness. In the 50’s the “lavender scare” was a moral panic about queer people in government positions, leading to massive dismissals from government service. This brought decades of harassment and abuses which became a major catalyst for the gay rights movement. In 1969, only a month after the Stonewall riots- lavender sashes were distributed to participants in a “gay power” march from Washington Square Park to the Stonewall Inn in New York to commemorate the historic protest. In the 1970’s the group the Lavender Menace was born after Betty Friedmen used the phrase to demean queer women she believed were a threat to women’s empowerment. The group reclaimed the term with pride to protest the exclusion of lesbians from the feminist movement. Over and over again queer people have reclaimed this color, this flower, this flavor- soft, floral, powerful, to celebrate ourselves and flip the script on hatred directed at us. For all this it represents to me our kinship and adaptability, our care for one another. 💜

"T4T"
T4T, or trans for trans, is a sacred phrase to me and my community. It represents our love for one another, both platonic and romantic. It’s protecting each other, seeing each other, finding each other, and holding each other close in a world which more and more seeks to erase us. It was very important to me that this phrase find its way into my collection as a nonbinary trans person!

Roses have a long history of symbolizing love and romance, tied to the goddess Aphrodite, but in recent times they have become a symbol of love for each other within the trans community, especially on solemn days like the Trans Day of Remembrance- observed every November 20th to memorialize and remember those who have been murdered because of transphobia. The phrase “give us our roses while we’re still here” is commonly tied to this day, created by trans artist B. Parker, to remind us to honor trans people while we are alive and not only after we’re gone. This artwork is a divider in both the journal and notebook- and is featured heavily throughout the sticker set!

"Be proud of who you are no matter what"
💐Pansies became known as the symbol for humanist and free thought movements in the 19th century, coming from the french word pensée, meaning thought. Like many reclaimed queer symbols, the word pansy was often used to degrade specifically gay men- However- the “Pansy Craze” from the late 1920s to the late 1930s saw a surge in popularity of “pansy performers,” what we know today as drag queens. These performers were very popular and the target audiences were surprisingly often straight, until a backlash of crackdowns on freedoms of expression (sound familiar?) shut them down in the 40’s. Today the pansy is a triumphant reclaimed symbol of queerness, representing our hope, vibrance, and pride- a spirit I’ve endeavored to express in the cover of my guided journal 🌈💕✨
