Almost every driver has been inconvenienced by oncoming vehicles with high beam headlights on. Usually this happens inadvertently, or because the other driver did not react quickly enough. A recent survey commissioned by Ford found that 65% of drivers in Asia Pacific reported having been momentarily blinded by the high beams of an oncoming vehicle, while 36% of respondents admitted that they had forgotten to switch off their high beams in the presence of traffic.
With Ford’s Auto High Beam technology, as soon as the sensor in the vehicle detects an oncoming vehicle, traffic ahead or sufficient road lighting, the system automatically dims the high beam lights. Once these external light sources have disappeared, it automatically turns them up again. At any time, the driver can override Auto High Beam via the high beam lever on the steering column, or deactivate the system entirely.
