Danger doesn’t always announce itself so obviously. True competence doesn’t require appearing intimidating.
The moment we assume someone is “less capable” is the very instant we surrender our awareness. In conflict; whether physical, mental, or situational, our faulty assumptions create “blind spots.”
Principally speaking, there are what I call “Safe Assumptions”. One of which is, “Always overestimate your opponents capability.” Not out of paranoia, but from a place of humility, self-discipline, and respect for the grim reality of violent encounters. Encounters that are sudden, proximal and dynamic in nature.
Awareness precedes survival and survival favors the prepared.
