Forty days after Christmas, Mary and Joseph bring the infant Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem. In that moment, the Author of the Law submits Himself to it, carried by the New Ark into His own holy dwelling. And the aged Simeon, who has waited his entire life, receives the Child and declares: "Now, O Lord, dismiss me in peace — for mine eyes have seen thy salvation."
