Blender has some awesome curve modeling tools that allow you to do some really cool stuff. Things like wires, tubes, bottles, logos, and paths to animate on can all be done with curves. While many people, myself included, usually model with polygons, you'll want to learn about bezier and nurbs curves. Your workflow will improve and these tools can get you out of binds pretty quickly.
