Interdisciplinary Pathways to Machine Learning and Data Science (IPMLDS) is a six week project-based training program for high school students. The program focuses on the development of scientific skills and a STEM network. Through the incorporation of research data and discussions with STEM professionals, students are able to engage with emerging topics in energy technology, biosciences, astrophysics, quantum information, and materials science and speak directly with the experts about mentorship, methodology, career trajectories, and work/life balance. Funding for IPMLDS comes from the DOE Office of Science's Reaching a New Energy Sciences Workforce (RENEW) initiative and is sponsored by the Office of Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists (WDTS).
