Historian Doug Enaa Greene, author of "Communist Insurgent: Blanqui's Politics of Revolution" speaks on the French revolutionary Louis-Auguste Blanqui, Jacobinism and the Enlightenment. The talk focuses on the importance on the Enlightenment as it unfolded particularly in France in the person of Louis-Auguste Blanqui. Doug Greene reflects on how this radical Enlightenment thought was a key strand in the history of modern Humanism. He argues, with Blanqui, that fulfilling the promises of the Enlightenment can only be realized with socialism.

Doug Enaa Greene is an independent historian living in the Boston area, and has been published in Socialism and Democracy, Counterpunch, Green Left Weekly, Open Media Boston, Jacobin and others. He was active in Occupy Boston.
