The Thorn pod actually allowed me to 2 Shot Vaal I was 3k damage short without it. I mentioned on my breakdown that Thorn pods dont work. Well they do but only 1 at once and its super hard to hit. If you shoot more, they break from the initial hit before the wyvernstake goes out. The only way to hit thorn pods is if a GS Player Slingerburst the second your stake is already about to come out and the stab hitbox gone, which also means no bombs but would be the fastest DUO run.
