The African Bioacoustics Library is an initiative under the Making Africa Heard project. We are focused on building and bolstering sound libraries for Southern Africa wildlife through collaboration between scientists and the general public.
We invite you to listen to the life around you and contribute to our project. Here is how you can do that:
Record the sounds while appreciating the wildlife, such as birds, mammals and fishes;
Preferentially make your records in WAV format;
Try to spend at least 30s recording your focal animal;
Upload your recordings together with photograph and/or video for species identification to: inaturalist.org/projects/african-bioacoustic-library

The Sound Perception in Animals Workshop 2023 arose from the idea of bringing highly qualified experts in bioacoustics to promote capacity building for South African students and researchers on the topic. The event was possible due to the collaboration between the African Bioacoustics Community through Sea Search Research and Conservation and the University of Southern Denmark, taking place at the Shark Spotters venue, in Muizenberg, Cape Town, on the 17th of May 2023.
