I had no idea where I was going after the 3rd one, so I got a bit lost as you can probably tell lol. Doesnt help that Im pretty tired at this point. Simple enough encounter anyway, contest doesnt change anything other than the enemies hitting a little harder.
A boss fight is next it seems, no idea if itll be possible, but will take a break and try it a little later on.

Was going to post this later in the week, but the servers are broken after the patch, so Ill just post it today instead.
Ive done this a few times now, but it was the featured raid last week and getting a checkpoint was easy. This time it was a bit more annoying than I remember though. I had a lot of attempts where the Golden Gun wouldnt break the crit despite hitting it multiple times in a row. Or other times that on the second phase Id hit it once with a scout rifle to prep for the Bad Juju break, and itd just instantly break. No idea why, but other than that its just waiting for the right colour to actually get a DPS phase. I also swapped to the other Salvations line-up, as the other one with the single shot at the front ended up feeling inconsistent this time. Most of the time the boss would start moving too late, and just end up breaking the crystals.
Theres a lot of ways to speed up the damage on this, but I couldnt be bothered swapping around loadouts from last time, and its going to be a decently long fight anyway, so I stayed with a safe add clear build to make sure I didnt have to start over. Itd also help if I didnt miss half of my Nighthawks too.
A couple of things about the run to answer the common questions:
- Salvations Grip is used to cause the boss to walk over the Stasis crystals and fall closer to where the tether point is, so that when he starts the damage phase, itll be much closer. This is essential for having the boss close enough to allow to connect a solo tether.
- Infinite damage phase is caused by connecting the tether, but breaking the chain as it connects to start the damage phase. Doing so will cause the damage phase to trigger, and be left in a permanent state to damage. You can replicate this in groups by breaking the tether as it connects, but solo its very consistent as the range of the tether is usually at a point where itll naturally break when connecting anyway.

Pretty much the same as normal mode, except things hit a not harder. I wiped twice at the beginning to what I can only assume is a bug, not sure what caused it but after completing the death wall section it just instantly sent me to a wipe screen without a death or anything. This time I did the exact same thing but it worked, so I have no idea what was going on. Ive also seen a few comments about the boss being bugged out for people, I think you need to make sure you go to the side the boss is actually on, otherwise you wont get the nodes to break.

Ive put more in-depth thoughts on the previous videos for each of those encounters (and builds), but Im happy that the majority of this is possible. First encounter was a great challenge with no dupes. The servitor boss fight is a terrible RNG check where you just spam right-click and hope you magically deal stasis chunks to beat it. A bit of a shame the final boss is impossible, but at least the majority was doable.
As for my thoughts on the contest and dungeon as a whole, Im a little mixed. For contest, I enjoyed the first encounter a lot, and I think from a community and challenge perspective its a nice addition which is very well done for a full fireteam. For my own personal content creation perspective, I was in a bit of a damned if you do, damned if you dont situation. Obviously my channel is built around guides and solo content, so naturally my focus has to be going into the dungeon blind on release, where only contest is available. That creates a situation where Im going to need to either spend an excessive amount of time getting the contest encounters done solo (blindly not knowing if theyd even be possible). In doing so, Im then removing the ability to follow my normal cadence of uploads and content for dungeon releases, where Id usually have multiple guides, full clears and solo flawless runs done within the first few hours. Ive shifted my channel to prioritise guides first, challenges later over the years, as thats the only way keep a D2 challenge channel going. But if I was to follow that approach, then Id likely miss out on being able to put enough time into contest before it goes away in the 48 hour window, along with the inevitable wondering from people where the solo contest videos are.
Anyway, thats a problem thats pretty much exclusive to me, and ultimately it impacts nobody other than myself here. But thats where my mind is at with the release of this, and its something to weigh up for the future dungeons as to what the best approach for the channel is.
The dungeon itself is also very good, and it feels more raid-like than some of the raids weve gotten over the years. I do think the final boss highlights a bit of a pain point for solo runs with the massive health pools and time needed to commit to getting a clear for the majority of people.
Up next will be solo flawless normal.

Destiny 2 The Final Shape - Solo Expert Battleground Core on a Solar Warlock / Solo Flawless Expert BG Core in Episode 1 Echoes. Just a quick video showing a solo flawless clear of the newly added Battleground this week on Expert Difficulty, being cleared using a Warlock in Episode 1 Act 2 Echoes. Details below.
Maybe the most difficult boss fight of the 3, as it can get pretty chaotic, especially if you dont end up getting ammo drops. If you get some better ammo drops early though, you can probably clear it a lot faster and safer. Either way, these battlegrounds were fun to solo on expert. Not the most difficult by any stretch, but something different to do. Theyll probably feel pretty decent as GMs, if they ever turn into those.
Lastly, regarding the loadout, I wanted to keep it the same between the 3 battlegrounds. I was originally planning to do them as one final video with all 3 in one, due to the nature of them starting from the end point of the previous one. Not sure if Ill do that now, but either way I wanted to keep it as one overall experience.
