Black Expression is a new Argentine band, led by guitarist and bassist Eduardo Martínez, accompanied by two musicians: a drummer and a keyboardist. Curiously, the latter's place is fundamental in the musical architecture of this first album.
This is an ambitious instrumental work that, thanks to sumptuous exchanges between vintage keyboards (Moog and Hammond at the forefront) and guitar, explores a progressive style reminiscent of the 1970s, displaying tense, generally very dynamic moments where the style embraces fusion, meticulous arrangements, and rhythmic virtuosity worthy of mention.
Black Expression demonstrates great creativity, deploying their music, which is deeply engaging, not only for the display of virtuosity that isn't hollow, but also for achieving melodic brilliance right from the compositions themselves.
Shifting the sound and the sonic palette toward a heavier progressive style than on their debut album, blending it with the symphonic traits that characterize the project, is of course something that will please some and displease others.
