Think of them as levels that you can spend on non-combat content and can have refunded as well.

The reason why you can only buy one house in a region first is because each house [except for the first available one] has a prerequisite house you need to own before having the right to purchase. So if you're looking for a certain house in a big city, the chances are that you're going to have to go through some other houses in that city before you can buy the one you want.

Small houses like the one I bought in the video are piss-cheap. Only one measly contribution point.

I was having plenty of fun with sorcerer combat but after trying out ranger combat that Ive been just playing for 30 minutes well, I really got to understand why everyone [including the CEO of Pearlabyss] was saying that the ranger was way too fun compared to other characters.
