Black bears are efficient berry-eaters, consuming up to 30,000 berries a day in a good year.

Black bears are most active during early morning and late evening hours in spring and summer.

Every fall, black bears are eating ravenously. So they can put on enough fat to last through the winter denning time.

They spend about 20 hours a day eating and might put on up to 100 pounds in a few weeks.

During the spring and summer, black bears eat around 5,000 calories a day, but in the fall, they are trying to eat up to 20,000 calories every day.

Black bears have a well-rounded diet. They are both meat and vegetable eaters, which makes them omnivores. In the spring time they eat mostly the plants. Summertime , they feast on berries and insects. Fall time , they go after the nuts and more berries . They also eat dead animals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and mammals.
