I’ve lost track of time, I can’t tell the hour
A little whiskey, a little wine, I feel the power
Moments drag, yet years just fly
Life keeps moving, and I don’t know why
A lost suitcase at an empty gate
Or an empty pool in the fall, I contemplate
Is it wrong to want some light?
Does it even matter tonight?
I reach for the phone, though I’m so weak
Words I can’t say, the closure I seek
A voice I can’t leave on the machine
These echoes of life haunt every scene
Today’s my birthday, I’m drunk and I mourn
Sitting on this bar stool, broken and worn
At the age my father left this place
I face the mirror, I see my own face
Words are growing heavy in my mouth
All the lives I’ve known, scattered about
Shattered, shattered
Shattered, shattered
I tried to say sorry to all I’ve lost
But the messages vanish, swallowed by the cost
A heart full of love, yet here I stand
Grief in my fingers, life slipping like sand
I reach for the phone, though I’m so weak
Words I can’t say, the closure I seek
A voice I can’t leave on the machine
These echoes of life haunt every scene
Today’s my birthday, I’m drunk and I mourn
Sitting on this bar stool, broken and worn
At the age my father left this place
I face the mirror, I see my own face
Words are growing heavy in my mouth
All the lives I’ve known, scattered about
Shattered, shattered
Shattered, shattered
Every memory, a lightning strike
Every loss cuts deeper tonight
But I scream through the fire, I fight
I won’t let darkness steal my life
Today’s my birthday, I’m drunk and I mourn
Sitting on this bar stool, broken and worn
At the age my father left this place
I face the mirror, I see my own face
Words are growing heavy in my mouth
All the lives I’ve known, scattered about
