Billy Cotton's London Savannah Band play "Ida (Sweet As Apple Cider)", with a laid back blues flavour, featuring an excellent alto sax solo, nice breaks by Sid Buckman on trumpet and some fine ensemble passages. The arrangement is by the band's pianist, Clem Bernard.
It was released on both Metropole's own label and the company's cheaper Piccadilly label. The Piccadilly is rare enough, but the Metropole is even rarer! Both releases are pressed from the same master, which suffers from a degree of distortion that can be heard when the brass instruments play, especially the trumpets.
