This is the album "Going Home" by Bill Stafford, the talented steel guitarist most notably behind the soundtrack to Gus Van Sant's 1991 film "My Own Private Idaho", starring River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves.
The music stirred a deep aching in my heart, a longing for something far away and hard to understand completely.
After watching the film for the first time, I wasn't able to find his records anywhere online (there's little detail as to when this album was even released), but a forum post brought me to his facebook page, where I got in touch with him directly about purchasing some of his music.
I share this with you all now as it is my absolute favourite work of Mr Stafford and broadly the closest in sound and tone to many of the pieces from the film's soundtrack.
If there is sufficient interest, I will share the additional records Bill was kind enough to send to me as a gift as videos also.
I thank him again for his immense kindness and warmth, particularly given my contacting him from the UK. I strongly encourage anyone else interested in getting a copy of this album (or any others from him) to send him a message also. He's a lovely, kind man. Show him some love.
