"In 'The Lowering' I am comparing my mother's battle against cancer to a super jeep trek I took when living in Iceland. Thinking back on them both, it saddens me to think our jeep had more safety nets than she did. We could look at the monitor in our jeep and avoid the pitfalls; the one her doctor read only showed the inevitable. Our Jeep had a hook on it so we could be pulled out of a crevice if we plummeted in; my mother had no such hook and was left to sink away from me as I hovered above her - helpless as well. No helicopter came to rescue her."
