I fell in love with the combination, but I wondered if I would be able to pull it off with how little the donghua covers from the story (only 20ish chapters of 240 something.. yikes). I decided to try anyway because this series and characters have been living rent free in my head for quite some time. I wanted to edit to this pair so much I just had to try. They have easily become probably my all time favorite OTP. They are just.. so perfect and I love them. I had hoped that editing this would help me work it out of my system but it actually made it worse...Whoops. I decided to keep the video itself rather simple, light and fluffy...with a bit of angst in the middle. Oh how I can't wait to edit a full angst video with this series. All I could do here is hint at what's to come using MDZS scenes, but that will do for now. The change in tone is abrupt, but I don't care. I had fun editing this video overall so who cares if it's a bit all over the place? The audio had to be distorted to get this video up because the last half of the track was being copyrighted by something with the name 'squirrel' in it. I am still baffled and puzzled on whatever it is, but regardless, I profusely thank my friend Alicia for helping me work past the copyright of the Squirrel. I love puns too much. LolSomehow I made it into the final round of Project Org Editor. Shocking, I know. The final rounds theme was to create a video that exemplifies a period of time from the past.' I debated back and forth on what I wanted to do. Creating a video based in the WWII region would have been incredibly easy, but I wanted to challenge myself a bit. I ended up going with the Italian Renaissance. The only anime I knew that was set in this time period was the series Arte. So, I binged it in one night and got started the next day. I really, REALLY wish Arte was better animated. So many static scenes...Made it quite the challenge to edit with and to make look nice. I did the best I could, hope I was able to make the video flow. D: Regardless, I was able to try out new techniques and things I don't normally do for videos so it was educational and different for me. It was quite the learning experience. The video story is basically a 'flashback' to the story/origin of the creator of the portrait the present day character in the museum is stunned by. I wanted to really emphasize the setting, as well as the struggle it was for a woman artist to be recognized. I wanted to show how hard she had to work in all aspects of her life; from chores to practicing her art. Of course, I also wanted to show her creating the portrait from the beginning. It was difficult cramming that all in there, but I did the best I could. Hopefully I met the theme/goals of what I set out to do. xD It was quite a challenge finding a song that could work with my video idea. I went down a crazy rabbit hole of medieval to 16th century music (look up bardcore and medieval covers, they are epic). I took a chance on a 30 second sound clip from a song I found on amazon from the album "Fire and Ice:Love songs from the 16th Century" I had no idea the song had lyrics when I bought it. It really turned out perfect for what I had in mind. I also have no idea what the lyrics are talking about or singing. The only thing I know is that "Dura Passion" means something along the lines of "Tough passion" which, in a non romantic sense works for this video because she had to work hard for her passion. I'm just going to go with that and say it matches. The final rounds theme was "Dynamic Duo". Instead of choosing an iconic, famous, or superhero duo, I chose to choose a duo that is so obscure few people will even know who they are or what they are from. These two are also incredibly 'normal' compared to other duos. They aren't together to take on the world, they are together to help each other in what ways they can. Whether it's giving each other strength to fight personal demons, to be there to share a laugh, to hug in a moment of failure or disappointment..They'll be there for each other 'Through Thick and Thin'. To me, this is what makes a truly iconic and dynamic duo. That unbreakable connection even in the simplest of things. I wanted to display how together it didn't matter if they succeeded or failed, what matters is they were together. Toma and Maki's relationship is honestly one of my favorites in recent memory. They are one of those 'honest' depictions of friendship and partnership that is rarely seen in media. I can't say too much beyond that because there aren't really words for it. I feel my story is pretty straightforward, but it's free to interpretation. I've always wanted to edit to Stars Align ever since I first watched it last year. It's a criminally underrated series, that got it's two cour season cut in half and ended on the absolute worst cliff hanger you could ever imagine. It's such a shame too because this show is one of the most heartfelt, honest, sincere, and beautiful series I've ever seen. Its characters and messages are some of the most realistic and emotional I've ever encountered in anime. It's also not afraid to go to very dark places and touch on subjects that are often skirted around because they are uncomfortable. If you want to watch an anime that is different than most others, this is a good place to start. It is NOT a typical sports anime. Don't let the soft tennis fool you. It is dark, and it is emotional and it also has a terrible terrible cliffhanger. Also, this song is super repetitive. R5's theme was to focus on tools/devices that are as important as the characters that use them. I decided to go with "swords" for my focus, and what better fit than Demon Slayer? They'd all be dead without their swords. Pretty important if you ask me. Lol. I wanted to have the video mostly be about Tanjiro and his growth as a character and how he had to work through his weaknesses, fear, and loss and become one with his sword to overcome the trials he faced. I decided to intermix it with other characters as them being the "prime" examples of what he must become. Courageous, fearless, undaunted, but how they also have their own weaknesses that make them who they are. It's a bit messy going back and forth between them but I don't care. It was a fun action video for me to make (even if I did whine all the way through it.. sorry Alicia) I'm also proud I've kept up my streak of having a different genre for each round. The prompt was to go with a season, holiday, or special time of the year. I chose the holiday "Pancake Day". Which yes, is a real thing. It's also known as Shrove Tuesday, but Pancake Day is just a lot more fun sounding. I don't do comedy/random videos often, so it's usually pretty entertaining for me when I do. The inspiration and idea for this video came from this lovely improve scene: youtu.be/7a3SOt8gv6U It also became the title as homage. LolI was only able to create this video with the help of a very useful tumblr page. fuckyeahanimefood.tumblr.com It gave me examples of the food scenes I needed, but also what series and episode the shot was from. That's a godsend for trying to find things like this. I never would have been able to find all of these pancake shots otherwise...Also this is one of the few videos where the majority of the scenes I used I haven't even seen the series. My favorite is still the grenade pancake. I have no idea what that was about..Anime sure can be strange at times. Also discovered what appeared to be a spider scaring a bunch of girls scene. I don't know why that isn't a more common scenario in slice of life/comedy series...On a final note, after making this video, I really want pancakes. Anime food can look so appetizing at times. The first prompt was "Body Parts"; I chose to go with "feet". Basically it's a story about these two lonely/lost people coming together and connecting due to his interest in shoe making and drawing, even if their relationship could never be, they still meant so much to each other and will always be just a 'few feet apart' (lol); As a friend summarized; "They met because of feet and they fell in love because of feet". Pretty self explanatory actually. Editing this video really helped me appreciate Garden of Words and how well it depicts the intimacy of the scene where he measures/draws her foot. ⌠Behind the Mask⌡ Kaeldri 2019-12-31 | "What is depression like? It's like drowning. Except you can see everyone around you breathing."------------------------------------------------------------This is my final video for 2019 and of the past decade. This video was very difficult for me to do because there were so many things I wanted to express through it: what it feels like to be depressed, what it feels like to be hurt, what it feels like to be lonely, what it feels like to lose family, what it feels like to feel worthless, what it feels like to be abandoned when you need someone the most.. Those are only a few of the things I wanted to express though it, and some of them are incredibly vague and hard things to represent because they are 'invisible' and not something everyone experiences. I know I didn't complete succeed because I had to rely on outside 'forces' (like death, abuse, implied assault) to help increase impact (and there is only so much walking around scenes I could use before it became super repetitive) But I tried. Anyway, the full on story for the video is that the character is suffering from depression and loneliness and he hides his feelings and covers them up, trying to fight through it himself, to feel worthy when someone comes into his life that is so bright and vibrant and he thinks to himself that he can trust her and so he lets all of the bottled up emotions, experiences, and words out and she can't handle him so she leaves him when he needed help the most. Leaving him even more broken and alone than before. That's a rough summary anyway. Happy story right? We participated in the Heaven and Hell section where we had to pick a song from a randomized music folder; where the songs were either great to edit with [heaven] or terribly difficult to edit with [hell]. Thankfully we had some really good 'Heaven" songs to choose from and this was the one we settled on. It was a lot of fun to edit with and super easy. My favorite part was the instrumental.. it was super addicting to sync that section, I could have easily done that whole section myself! I had to share of course. Lol.This AMV is about friendship and support. My sections were about how Carole and Tuesday were there for each other whenever they felt bad about whatever it was (doubt in their abilities, bad past, bad relationships, whatever) and how they helped support each other in becoming musicians even when it seemed the world was telling them to quit. I wanted to show the growth of Ash from someone who was always alone and isolated, to when he found someone who made him happy and his journey to be able to open up and accept love. Alicia on the other hand, used Yuri on Ice to show the personal growth of Yuri and how Victor was able to help him build his confidence to accomplish things he never thought possible. I like the varying idea of having someone else help one find oneself. In whatever way that may be. This is also our first real 'romance' video...though of course I had to end my portions bittersweet. Can't have a video without that right? Regardless, I like that our first romance genre collab was for 'non-traditional' couples. It was so nice portraying them as normal and natural relationships where it isn't overly sexualized and instead shown as people who simply love one another and care deeply. I had very little inspiration or will to want to edit and it was a week away from being the end of June. I didn't want to give up though but I had no ideas, so I decided to treat this month's video like an IC. I had Toya (xGeminii) pick a song for me which I then edited to. (Thank you for helping me out with that!) This song had a really nice atmosphere to it, and at first I felt it didn't have much of a climax or build up, but it was a very fitting mood for Tokyo Ghoul, so that's what I did. Since the first season of RE: just finished up, it was a perfect fit. I wanted to focus on the inner turmoil and mental issues of the lead characters of Kaneki/Haise. I never realized how difficult it is to edit an almost 'multiple personality' video like this. It may be confusing since Kuroneki, Shironeki, and Haise all look very different (I didn't even get to include the Black Reaper either... Ken has such serious issues), but I tried my best to just try and show that 'conflict'. 'A coin may have two sides, but it's still one coin' - or something. It's nowhere near perfect, but I like the results well enough. On a side note: Last months video was about a person coming to terms with reality and forming a sense of 'peace of mind' while this months video is about a character that fails to come to terms with reality and is destroyed by their own mind. Yay for weird connections / opposites!...and I ended the video with the main character dying. I almost didn't finish it in time, but I made it. I was 90% sure that this would be the final month that I made my little 'challenge' video, but voila, here I am on to another month. It worked out though that this was May's video because a major focus in it was a mother, and Mother's Day was this month. Life is weird. The idea for this video was to show a girl (Chise) so wrapped up in her own past, trauma, and despair that she fails to see the beauty of the world around her. She's then pulled out of it and is able to see what she couldn't before: that there was happiness in her past, that there were people who cared, and that there is a future in front of her. I also wanted to show the development of Chise and how she was able to move on from her past, and forgive her mother for the pain that she caused. Or something like that. I had been wanting to use a Sleeping at Last song for quite some time, and once I watched Ancient Magus Bride, I matched this song up to it fairly quickly. It was a lovely match. Of course, I wish I could have used more Elias in it, but he didn't work for the overall theme and image. It just didn't click. (Sorry Elias, maybe next time) I also tried a lot of new things for this video, and I put a ton of work into it. It's nowhere near perfect by any means (in fact, it's quite messy if you look close enough), but it was fun to do. I felt accomplished doing stuff I hadn't tried before. I don't know if it paid off, but it was (mostly) enjoyable for me. I almost killed my computer running Vegas and AE at the same time though... I did more than a minute of another video but abandoned it because it didn't feel right, and felt pretty heartless. I honestly had no clue what to do, and then the Life is Strange: Before the Storm bonus episode came out and that solidified what I'd be doing this month. The moment I heard this song it always reminded me of Max and Chloe. It fit so perfectly with them, that I knew this was the one I had to use (plus I love Shinedown so it works quite well). I hated having to cut the song so much, but there just wasn't really enough to work with with LiS..I hope the cuts aren't too bad or obvious. I had finished Life is Strange a while back, and I started it due to gentle propaganda/hinting from a friend who wanted me to play it (Thank you for that Alicia xD) and it was a wonderful game. The music, characters, story, emotions.. it is quite an experience and I'm glad Chloe and Max's story is finally complete and wrapped up. Their relationship felt so real and heartfelt...I wish there were more stories/characters that had even a small portion of the raw emotional power LiS had. For this video, I wanted to give the video an almost 'nostalgic' or 'dreamlike' feeling so I added some coloring and light effects to try and reflect that. I'm not sure if it worked all that well, but it was fun to play and experiment with. I'll have to keep experimenting for future videos too. When deciding on what to do for February's video I realized the Winter Olympics start in February so I chose to do a Yuri!!! on ICE video. It doubly works out because it's a more 'romantic' video which also coincides with Valentines day. (even if it wasn't uploaded on Valentine's Day..) Plus I've wanted to do a YOI video for quite some time... BOOM. Three birds, one stone. I didn't think I'd be able to do almost a 4 minute video with YOI considering how much of the scenes in it are other competitors and such, but here we are. When I was trying to find a song, and heard this one it was too perfect to pass up. The fact that the piano is very similar to the music in YOI itself, it was a perfect match really. It was hard cutting it down from the original 7 minute length though. (Plus the fact that the song is named "Sparkle" and I used an incredibly sparkly and gay anime....match made in heaven. The alternate title to this video is "Sparkle!!! on ICE") I feel quite proud in the fact that I used minimal skating until the end and instead had the majority of the focus on Yuri feeling like he was 'never enough' and then how his relationship with Victor gave him the confidence to skate his best. It was actually quite hard keeping most of the skating in the end because it just flowed so well with the song earlier on too, but I did it! Also.. it feels weird for me to do something so... happy. Normally whenever I do something that has a couple or romance or anything even slightly happy someone will die, someone cheats or betrays the other person, or they just end it for some reason. As told by my friend Alicia, it feels Disney like. I find that to be the best description for it. Can't believe I've made that many videos... Just crazy.. After I finished playing Nier Automata I really wanted to do a video to it because it was a fabulous game. I wanted to do something with action, but also had emotion since the characters had so much of it throughout the course of the game. This video is mainly focused from 9S's perspective (though it will go back and forth to 2B and A2). I wanted to show how love leads 9S to his own destruction where all he can do is seek revenge and to end up dying alone.Honestly this isn't my best work, but I enjoyed making it so that's what matters I think. I had fun doing some of the transitions and effects and I felt the bleached look was nice for the coloring. It's fun doing an action video every once in a while and Nier Automata is great to work with. I absolutely adore this song too. When I heard it I knew I had to edit with it, I'm glad that I got to do it. It was meant for someone, and for me it was my own form of 'venting'. However, I made it in a way where many different meanings and interpretations could be seen in it. I left it ambiguous enough to maybe reach as many people who have maybe felt something similar. If I had to narrow down the theme of the video to a simple sentence, it'd be: "Learning to connect with people and forming meaningful relationships". Of course, it's much more complicated than that, but that's really all I'll say on the matter. EDIT: Placed 2nd in the 2nd round of the Quickening.The story is about Nagisa finding out Tomoya has been cheating on her. She remembers all the time they spent together, and Tomoya comes back to try and make things work, but she always has a doubt in her mind about the authenticity of their relationship, which is proven correct when he keeps ditching her to be with other women. Finally, she decides "F*** You I'm Done" and leaves Tomoya. Tomoya afterwards realizes what he lost and is now alone, but Nagisa can finally look forward to something better. Fair warning.」So I decided to join Illuminated Studio's IC. The theme was Shadow vs Radiance, and you pick a side and edit to a song from their lists in four days time. I did this video in two days because of work.. Also I'm sure it's pretty obvious which side I chose. Lol. For a while now I had been wanting to create a video depicting the hell and horrors that many people suffer at the hands of others. I wanted to be brutally honest about how these types of things effect the victim, and how it's a never ending nightmare that so few seem to notice. It's a sensitive and unpleasant topic, but I also think to completely cover your eyes and pretend it's not there is foolish and naive. Even reaching out to someone who seems alone can make all the difference. After all, we never truly know what's going on in other people's lives. I think the video itself is pretty self-explanatory so I'm not going to do that here. Just watch and come to your own conclusions. I tried some new things out in terms of the actual editing department, mostly with the effects, it was a lot of fun. There's an MEP coming out with this song as well (which we are both in too). However, the story and idea is very different from that. I thought that using the idea of time travel with several anime and the characters trying to save their loved ones would make for an interesting video. Especially with this song. I'm going to copy and paste Alicia's description of the story. "We focused on the main characters trying to save their loved ones from death, by manipulating time, in some way or another, time jumping and going back to save them. Thats the connection between all the stories. And as you'll see by the end of the video, it doesn't go well at all, and they end up being "lost in time" themselves, existing in their own reality, outside of the normal timeline all alone. Then when I heard this song I knew it was the perfect match for Ajin. And boom. I ended up finishing incredibly early, but I still accomplished my goal. It was such an experience to play through the main series like that. It's amazing to watch the evolution and how much actually changes between each game. Having done so, I have more respect on the amount of effort the creators put into each of their creations. People may not like each of the games, but that's okay! They are all so unique and different it'd actually be surprising if everyone DID enjoy each installment. I personally enjoyed them all, but I too have my favorites. Anyway, I created this video to depict my favorite aspect about these games: The emotion, themes, deeper meanings, and the character development/growth. It's pretty easy to rely only on the action scenes in the Final Fantasy franchise, but the level of emotion and the messages each game tries to tell are captivating in their own right and I feel they are often forgotten for other details instead. So this video is my tribute to that.I was able to use each of the main numbered Final Fantasy at least once except I and V (and the mmo numbered games, I didn't play those because it costs money and I'm cheap) because there animation and scenes simply did not match at all. I also realize the animation style and quality varies drastically as there is only so much that can be done with some of the footage, but I hope that doesn't detract too much from the experience. Alicia went with Lain (1998), and I went with NGE (1995) So we each edit the respective anime in the video, so it's easy to tell who did what. There is a certain charm to editing to older anime. It's a shame people don't do it as often because it's a "challenge".I had a lot of fun, but this was incredibly difficult to edit. The song itself has a wacky structure to it, and using NGE but NOT showing the Evangelions is really, really, REALLY hard. It gave me a chance to try out some new things though, and it was overall a good experience. The concept we were going for was to show two individuals struggling with their reality. I'm 100% certain it's because there were so many drop outs otherwise I would never have made it this far. Out of all the rounds for this contest this has been both my favorite song and edit. The song isn't "annoying" to me per se, it's perfectly fine to listen to, but to edit it is a huge pain in the back end because the song never slows down. It has not pauses or moments to catch your breath to add another level of 'emotion' into it. It's just the same thing all the way through. It's kind of sad really, but oh well. I did the best I could with it, and I'm satisfied with the results so that's all that matters.I tried to go out of my comfort zone and edit differently than how I normally do, so there are masks, different effects, etc. etc. I even used Adobe After Effects and Photoshop! (some of those lovely drawings are my handy work). The idea that paranoia and fear of something will lead people to become the very thing they fear. The text at the beginning of the video is a direct quote from that episode of the Twilight Zone (with Maple street replaced for Yomiyama city) It was a fun idea to work with, but it seems so few people actually know the Twilight Zone anymore..
