Manual Gaming is a series that explores the codependency between retro video games and their physical reference materials such as manuals, maps, and overlays.

After reading through what I felt was a fairly comprehensive instruction manual for Bigfoot for NES, I constantly overheated my monster truck in various championship events and got blown to bits on a cross-country adventure. With two unique control schemes for multiple modes of play, things were tough to get used to, and we paid dearly for it. I paid so much in fact that I ended up too broke to fix the truck and had to drop out of the competition. I'll get you next time, Growler! πŸ–
