8/25/2026 - The Timber Fire in Big Sur’s Ventana Wilderness is entering a critical phase, with extreme weather, rugged terrain, and heavy fuels driving steady westward spread toward Manuel Peak which sits just inland of the Big Sur Valley.
It is not unlikely that the fire will get over the ridge, which has very difficult access and a lack of opportunities for good firelines, and back down the west side of the mountains toward Big Sur.
