Yesterday, the Boss decided it was time to remind absolutely everyone who runs this stretch of river.
First came the head slap/ water snap 💦 nicked names water bite as when slowed down they actually bite the water .
Then came the RAIN DANCE a spectacular little body shimmy that basically says : “ Ladies and gentlemen direct your attention to the main attraction.”
And a little narial gysering .
Underneath all this crocodile theatrics is some serious communication. In social animals, displays like these can allow individuals to signal size, strength, status and intent without having to actually get into a dangerous physical fight.
And water is an excellent sound system. 🔊🌊
Some of these sounds and vibrations travel through the water, allowing other crocodiles to know: “ to the blokes “…the boss is here.” And the ladies, let’s just say the message is slightly more:
“ Big, strong, healthy male currently accepting applications.” 😉
No need for a punch on. Just a some slapping, snapping, splashing, gysereing and showing off.
Because when you’re the Boss…
you don’t need to fight everyone. You just need to make sure everyone knows you could. 🐊👑
