Put away your microscopes - this bacteriaâs a big boy!
This is Thiomargarita magnifica, the world's biggest bacterium. Itâs clearly visible to the naked eye, having the size and shape of a human eyelash!
They were discovered living on sunken, decaying mangrove tree leaves in the French Caribbean, and are roughly 5,000 times larger than most bacteria.
To put that in perspective, itâd be like you bumping into another human whoâs as tall as Mount Everest!
Donât get too creeped out though. They arenât dangerous and can't cause disease in humans.
