After analyzing @Krithalith's brute forced TAS of this strategy, I noticed that Mario was only missing around 4 - 6 or so units to land on the star platform without needing to ledge grab it when holding the A button for the entire ascent of the wallkick. Since Krithalith brute forced for maximum horizontal speed on the double jump, it was unlikely that achieving the additional speed needed to get the double jump just this tiny bit higher would be possible with the same strategy, so I had to get creative. With a longjump at the start instead of a dive off the edge I managed to get sufficient speed to pull this strategy off. This sacrifices 8 frames, and another frame is lost just before the double jump to due inconvenient spacing of the slope Mario speedkicks on (this frame might be savable), but skipping the ledge grab saves enough frames to be worth it after all.

Pretty much the same deal as with Breathtaking View From Bridge, just gwk some more; @Crackhex actually optimized the part until the sideflip for both stars, but their run (youtube.com/watch?v=6WivjDG0KI4) still has an outdated beginning, so that's -1f for free. I then gain 7 frames on the gwk spot, and then another 5 up to the monkey grab on the slope. After that, I managed to squeeze one more frame out by placing Ukiki in a slightly better spot, letting him reach his final waypoint one frame earlier. I resynced the ghost at the grab to better show this.

This run has been a passion project of mine for 2 years now, and I'm really happy it's finally complete (although I'm NOT happy with how encoding it went...). I knew I was going to learn a lot as I'd go, so I have accepted some small mistakes near the beginning of the project as I found them for the sake of being able to complete the run. Overall, the level of optimization only seems to increase from the beginning, but I'm still very happy with how everything turned out. Enjoy!

Krithalith saved 5 frames over Eru / Plush's strat to collect the 23 coins before entering the cabin, and I noticed that the BLJ near the blue coin block was probably improvable. Indeed, I was able to save 2 frames before starting the BLJ by hitting an exposed ceiling unit from the slidekick recover and perform a faster quickstop, and another 5 frames with better utilization of exposed ceiling units during the BLJ. Unfortunately, this particular BLJ ends up giving slightly less speed, so I lose one frame on the movement to the bridge, totalling a 6 frame time save rather than 7. I am uncertain if it could be possible to save this lost frame, either with more speed (although not much can be gained) or better movement after the jump kick.
Notice that I perform a turnaround on the bridge to start divegrinding. This was a strat idea that i had to save back the one frame I lost during the BLJ movement, but the landing and angle don't quite work out to actually save a frame, so it just cuts even and ties the previous run there.Super Mario 64 - Watch for Rolling Rocks 12.80 (TAS)FramePerfection2021-11-22 | I managed to create 2 runs that get this star in 12.80 - This is a 1 frame improvement over galoomba's improvement (youtube.com/watch?v=DT_8mzaE0YE) and 3 frames over the original upload (youtube.com/watch?v=BFSRSprALZ4).
One way to save this frame was to get rid of the 1/4 quarter-frame landing on the jump kick and wallkicking one frame earlier. The other method is to wallkick in a better position while allowing the 1/4 quarter-frame landing to happen, which gets Mario close enough to the star so he can sideflip under it rather than single jumping. This saves a frame on the ground pound.
Unfortunately, I was unable to merge both strategies, because avoiding the 1/4 quarter-frame landing requires slightly lower speed and the earlier landing makes Mario too far away from the wall to get into a good wallkick position. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I don't think saving one more frame by this method is possible.
[Edit: The ghost is just the second method to get 12.80, it ties the real Mario here.]SM64 25th Anniversary TAS Competition Task 3 Winning Run ProgressionFramePerfection2021-11-21 | Since @1ted59 explicitly asked me to upload my run for this task, I decided to do so, but since a run like this doesn't just fall from the heavens, I decided to go the extra mile and instead document the entire progression from my first to last run.
This task was especially crazy, with tons of incredibly creative strategies and really fast execution, so if you haven't yet, I'd recommend to check out the reveal stream with all runs (youtube.com/watch?v=UAqomT4AWyw) as well as daddu's obligatory ghost comparison (youtube.com/watch?v=vZ63nD3ElR8).
The task rules are as follows: In Shifting Sand Land, warp accross the stage. Then, in order: 1. Break a Wing Cap Block 2. Collect any 3 yellow coins in the course. 3. Break another Wing Cap Block. Finish by entering the pyramid top warp.
I had an absolute blast creating this run, and I loved seeing everyone else's submissions as well, some cheesy, some fast, many unexpected. I'm pretty sure my ending isn't quite optimal, FeijodaMolhada's entry looked faster to me there.

The parts before the BLJ and after the warp were still made by Plush and Fifdspence.
The BLJ strat was STILL found by CSZ, but this time he and Crackhex found that you can fall off the edge after the BLJ rather than doing a jumpkick, which in turn allows Mario to do a dive rollout (immediately cancelled by the slope of the penguin platform) to start turning earlier. This by itself would only be enough to save 1 frame, but since Mario doesn't take fall damage either, it is possible to lower Mario's negative speed later in the trajectory using a jumpkick on the way to the 5th coin, saving 2 more frames.
The reason Mario must be moving with less than -168 speed at the 5th coin (i.e. 167.99 or something) is because in order to not enter first person mode after doing a C-Up wallhug, he must be in the air for at least one frame, which means his vertical velocity for the jump must be positive. Since a single jump's vertical velocity is computed as 42 + horizontal speed / 4, this means that at -168 speed Mario has 0 vertical speed, making him land immediately.
Hopefully this is the last improvement I do on this star, I'm getting tired of uploading the same thing over and over again lmao

I only did the segment from 0:12 to 0:22, the rest was done by Plush and fifdspence.
This time around I managed to cancel the first longjump using the exposed ceiling to BLJ on while still getting a good amount of speed. I also managed to save a frame in the bottom area by moving a tiny bit faster and a better line to the teleporter, allowing me to wallhug 1 frame earlier while still touching the teleporter.
The BLJ may still be improvable, but it's gonna be hard.

I tried to avoid the jumpkick during the BLJ entirely, but the wall collision near the edge is really janky, so I settled for the next best thing by performing the kick earlier while skipping a BLJ.

This is a tool assisted speedrun of Lugmillord's Super Mario 64 ROM Hack "Super Mario 74 Extreme Edition". If you don't know what a TAS is, check out this explanation first: youtube.com/watch?v=Ietk1-Wb7oY
The goal of this TAS is to complete the game as quickly as possible while meeting the 50 star door requirement to enter the second Bowser stage. From there, a simple unintended clip leads to an area that is meant to be part of the Bowser 3 course, but was stored in the Bowser 2 level due to memory restrictions. Thus, it is possible to skip straight from the second Bowser stage to the final one.
Notice that this run does not prohibit the use of BLJ. It is, however, required to pass through the 50 star door. I made this decision mostly to showcase the unrestricted potential of a TAS run.
