The women’s rights movement was about more than just the vote. While the 19th Amendment was a major milestone, reformers like Jane Addams and Florence Kelley saw voting as a way to improve everyday life in the United States.
Addams, the founder of Hull House in Chicago, worked with immigrant and working families to expand access to education, housing, and public health. Kelley focused on public policy, advocating for child labor laws, safer working conditions, and limits on working hours, especially for women and children.
