The use of GPS for mapping applications on smartphones is deeply embedded in today’s civil life. Associate Professor Ronni Grapenthin and Ph.D. student Alexandru Lăpădat reported in “Beyond finding coffee: GPS versatility in science and society” how the technology has become a 'Swiss Army knife' for science – in research fields including seismology, volcanology, snow and more, on March 1, 2022, as part of the 30th annual Science for Alaska Lecture Series.
