Most visitors to Tombstone head straight for Boothill Graveyard—but there's far more to the town's history than one famous cemetery.
In this episode of Cactus Atlas, we visit three of Tombstone's most significant burial sites. Our journey begins at the striking monument marking the final resting place of Tombstone founder Ed Schieffelin, whose silver discoveries gave birth to one of the Wild West's most legendary boomtowns.
Next, we stop at Tombstone Cemetery to visit the grave of photographer C.S. Fly, whose camera preserved some of the most iconic images of the American West, along with the memorial cenotaph honoring actor Val Kilmer and his unforgettable portrayal of Doc Holliday.
Finally, we explore Boothill Graveyard, where legends, outlaws, lawmen, miners, and everyday pioneers all share the same hillside. We take a closer look at some of the cemetery's most famous graves while separating documented history from long-repeated stories—including questions surrounding inscriptions that may not tell the whole truth. Boothill itself began as Tombstone's original city cemetery before earning its famous nickname because of the many violent deaths during the town's boom years.
