A troubling first in more than a decade: Bexar County has confirmed a case of rabies in a pet dog as officials report a surge in rabies cases among local wildlife.

So far, 22 wild animals have tested positive. Health officials are urging pet owners to make sure their animals are vaccinated and know what to do if they come into contact with a potentially rabid animal.
