Between East and West – a ten-episode webinar series featuring the world-renowned Jerusalem Orchestra East & West, In collaboration with the Koschitzky Centre for Jewish Studies and the Department of Music at the School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design at York University, Toronto, Canada, and with the support of the Azrieli Foundation. Viewers are invited to enter the fascinating world of the orchestra and its unique work, combining classical traditions of music from the Middle East with the conventions of Western classical music through enlightening explanations and immersive performances with guest artists.
Episode 8: Persian pop from the 1970s
Before the Khomeinist revolution, Iran was a Westernizing country with a flourishing cultural life. In this episode, we will look at the pop scene of those years, as a representative of the surprising and beautiful connection between East and West, and between classical and modern.
