Finally breaking into the model scene of Ship of Harkinian, this thread will focus on my new mod; BetterLinkn64. Most of my n64 mods, I have aimed to keep it as faithful to the original as possible in terms of art style, somewhat holding back on what I am capable of artistically. Here, I plan to try something a bit more detailed, as the limitations of the n64 are out, and I can let loose with my art skills.
DISCLAIMER: This mod doesn't claim to be better than Nintendo's, nor anyone elses. BetterLink is and always has been a fun marketing term just used to grab people attention.
The goals of this mod are as follows
-Make a higher quality Link model that has a bit more inspiration taken from the artwork, while also trying to keep the original vibe of the n64 model which I'd say is a bit more masuline. As for the triangle count, I am aiming for somewhere in between N64 and 3ds.
-The model will be a hybrid mix of high and low poly. I want to keep a low poly aesthetic, but like my Better Link mod for 3ds, I will be replacing some things with higher poly assets that don't look of place. This means things like the swords, shields, and things like that will have a bit rounder edges, and because they are a bit negligible in how much difference it makes at a glance, they stand out less when they are higher poly.
-{Most important goal) Make the model work well with Links existing animations. I want somethnig that looks like an upgrade to the original model, but isn't ruined by the animations. I plan to tailor make the model for the animations themselves.
-Remake all the equipment. These will also be released as an eqipment pack.
-Make something that everyone can enjoy!
Stretch goals:
-HD textures
-Textures that will fit in with the 3ds pack by Djipi.
-GI models?
