RCSBProteinDataBank | Beta-lactamase: Destroying Antibiotic @RCSBProteinDataBank | Uploaded April 2018 | Updated October 2024, 4 days ago.
In this video, you can see how the beta-lactamase enzyme (PDB ID 5uj3) destroys the antibiotic cefotaxime (cephalosporin). This beta-lactamase is a class A enzyme, meaning it has active serine residue in the active site that binds the antibiotic.

This video was created as a learning resource for the 2018 RCSB PDB Video Challenge for High School Students "Mechanisms of Bacterial Resistance to Beta-lactam Antibiotics".

To find out more about the challenge and to participate visit PDB-101 (pdb101.rcsb.org/events/video-challenge/the-challenge).
