Rating every coloring book I bought that was released in 2024. I invested in many new adult coloring book releases 2024, as I was in an experimental phase. Now that I have a better grasp of my preferences, I’ve become much more selective about the books I purchase. What is the best coloring books for adults?
Since many of you have been asking for book suggestions, I figured it was time to share whether these 2024 book releases are worth it. Plus, I’ll share the paper quality because sometimes bad paper can ruin the experience. Whether you’re looking for your next book or just curious about what was released, here’s what to expect in this video:

Paper Quality – 5-Star Rating System
Thicker paper earns higher ratings due to its versatility with various art supplies, making it a top choice for my type of coloring experience.
3 Stars – Amazon Paper
Found in books printed via Kindle Direct Publishing, this thinner, textured paper is similar to standard printer paper.
Limitations: Suitable for basic supplies, but firm pressure or burnishing with budget-friendly colored pencils can cause the paper to crumble. Wet mediums and markers often bleed through.
Note: The paper quality rating is separate from the line-art design, as many illustrators have no control over the printing materials.
4 Stars – Premium Quality Paper
Thicker paper, not too thick but closer to cardstock, with varying textures. Some have a smooth finish that enhances colors, while others have a bit more texture to hold pigments.
Best For: Budget-friendly pencils and dry mediums perform well. Wet mediums may work with caution, but overall durability is better than Amazon paper.
5 Stars – Premium Quality Paper Too!
This is closer to cardstock paper, often with a smooth or textured surface designed to bring out the best in markers and colored pencils.
Best For: More lilely to supports water-based supplies like watercolors, Derwent Inktense, and Neocolors with much less-bleed through.
Design Ratings
It’s also worth noting that it can be unfair to new and upcoming illustrators with no access to publishers or the resources to provide premium paper. That’s why I’ve kept my rating system separate and included a simple INVEST or SKIP verdict at the end of each book rating. This way, I can acknowledge the effort and talent behind the artwork, regardless of the paper quality. Especially since some of these illustrators have digital options where I can print an illustration on my own premium printer paper.
