Located in Mandai, Singapore, Bird Paradise opened on May 8, 2023, as the newest feature of the expansive Mandai Wildlife Reserve, which includes the Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, River Wonders, and the upcoming Rainforest Wild Park (Mandai Project - A Rejuvenated Mandai). Spanning approximately 17 hectares, its proximity to other attractions makes it a perfect spot for a comprehensive wildlife experience.
Bird Paradise is divided into multiple distinct aviaries, each meticulously designed to replicate specific global habitats and host unique inhabitants native to those regions. Among these are the Shaw Foundation Australian Outback, Mysterious Papua, Heart of Africa, Penguin Cove, Crimson Wetlands, Lory Loft, and many more.
Penguin Cove stands out as one of the largest simulated Antarctic exhibits globally, featuring cold saltwater pools for gentoo, king, and rockhopper penguins. This exhibit not only recreates South Pole conditions but also houses other seabirds such as the Humboldt penguin and Fuegian steamer duck, along with the silver gull from Australia. The two-tiered structure allows visitors to observe the birds from both underwater windows and an above-water level that emulates a cold, windswept beach.
Kuok Group Wings of Asia This tranquil aviary replicates a Balinese landscape, featuring dense trees, tall bamboo groves, and simulated rice terraces. Home to a diverse array of Asian birds like hornbills, spoonbills, and various storks, visitors can explore via elevated walkways offering views from two different levels.
Crimson Wetlands A vibrant echo of Latin America's coastal wetlands, the Crimson Wetlands are home to some of the world’s most brilliantly colored birds, such as scarlet ibises, roseate spoonbills, and American flamingos. This area is particularly stunning, festooned with reeds, waterlilies, and trees enveloped in crimson blooms, set against the backdrop of the park's tallest waterfall.
These areas are just a glimpse of what Bird Paradise has to offer, providing an immersive glimpse into the world of diverse avian species.
You can explore Bird Paradise either by taking a short tram ride or by walking. Keep in mind that there are only two tram stations, and unlike the Singapore Zoo, the tram does not offer elevated views of the birds.
At the entrance of each zone, you'll find a themed, air-conditioned area that serves as both an educational resource about its inhabitants and a cool refuge from the Singapore heat. Here, you can relax while your children play or learn about the fascinating wildlife.
The park offers two unique shows - Predators on Wings, where you can marvel at powerful birds like the White-bellied Sea Eagle, Turkey Vultures, and Harris's Hawk and my personal favorite Wings of the World showcasing popular and emerging birds displaying their natural talents and vibrant plumage. The show culminates in a spectacular finale with one of the world's largest flocks of birds creating a dynamic symphony of colors, sounds, and energy.
