My last "Best of Flash Domino" montage was uploaded on July 11, 2016. Here's the next one, 376 days and around 580 subscribers later...
I guess there's no shame in admitting that this was a pretty slow overall year for me. I barely used my building room (I can count my number of building days on my fingers) and I had to cancel a lot of upcoming videos. As an individual, I was not on top of my game at all.
However, my two biggest achievements this year may be my biggest building achievements ever- CDM 2017 and California Domino Art @YTSLA! (No footage of the latter project in this video though, I don't meet the sub requirement.) Looking back at how well I built during events like these, I noticed something.
I built better at events than at home, and I also made a lot of collabs this year (and more coming soon!) Maybe this was because I had no time to produce full videos by myself, but it does support one major lesson that I've learned. That is: one of the most beneficial things you can do is find and interact with like-minded people.
I am still very, very proud of the things I build on my own, given the busy life I live, but to see others contribute to videos I make (and to contribute to others' videos of course) gives those videos extra meaning. It's not only production but communication, video calls, and mutual respect. The CDM and YTSLA events would not have happened without other builders (Sprice was the lead builder for the YTSLA event, so of course, that definitely would not have happened).
I'm looking forward to building with the ISM team again next week and I can't wait to work with engineers in college. Establishing relationships and living experiences means so much more than a YouTube video.
May we all keep pushing until we find the people and the things we love to do. Thanks for a thought-provoking year.
