If you have been wondering which coloured pencils actually work best in Fairytales & Folklore by Emelie Lidehäll Öberg, this video is for you.
I tested 8 different pencil brands on the same page using the same layering and blending approach so we could see how each one truly performs on this paper. If you have struggled with blending, layering or colour payoff in this book, the paper may be the reason. Some pencils grip better, some sit on top, and some fill the tooth much faster than others.
In this comparison I tested Prismacolor, Polychromos, Black Widow, Luminance, Ohuhu Halawa, Arrtx, Castle Arts Soft Touch and Chromaflow. Each brand is scored in four categories including overall feel, colour payoff, layering and blending. At the end, I share which pencil performed best overall and which brands are still solid options for this paper.
If you already own pencils that ranked lower, do not worry. I also share practical tips such as adjusting pressure, layering lightly, using a harder base layer and even applying workable fixative to help improve results on smoother paper.
