To summarize,
-Renewal is good if you don't plan on getting hit by defense cutting specials. (but timing is key for heals at the right times)
-Quick Riposte will settle the round right there on your second hit. (with QR it is recommended you use double close defense because your ignis will pop on enemy phase and double CD will give you 4 more defense than my build letting you hit 68) problem is if the enemy is running moon bow or is an Ayra, Mia or QP BK expect to take a lot of damage.
-Guard will allow you to stay at full hp if you take 0 in the first place so long as the enemies special isn't pre-charged. I run Fortress defense and squad ace B (the defense one) because most of Beruka's Ignis' will proc on player phase (and you get to choose who's catching that ignis x)) and those two skills are always consistent. Though, fort def does have that -3 atk penalty.

But yeah, though I highly recommend my build, run what's best suited for your team ^^
