Bessent says U.S. tariffs may be lowered if trade rebalances @NikkeiAsia

"Over time, the tariffs should be a melting ice cube,” said U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in an exclusive interview with Nikkei. "If production comes back to the U.S., then we'll be importing less. So, we'll rebalance."

These comments come as U.S. tariffs on trading partners now average over 18%, the highest since the end of World War II, according to an estimate by Yale University.
