Damien Molony explains how the new Bergerac finds its own identity while honoring John Nettles and the elements fans remember from the original series.
In this Collider interview, Molony discusses stepping into the role of Jim Bergerac without feeling pressure to imitate Nettles’ performance. Instead, writer Toby Whithouse plants familiar Easter eggs throughout the series, including the car that becomes one of the revival’s most emotionally significant connections to the original.
Molony reveals that Jim’s late wife bought him the car while she was dying, giving him something to focus on during an incredibly difficult period. After her death, it becomes a physical embodiment of her, which led Molony to spend as much time as possible exploring and interacting with the car on set.
