Lately the science denial community has been trying to raise doubt about the use of the sextant on the globe, and in fact claim it would work on a flat earth (while still using the globe based nautical almanac).

We examine angular measurements using the mil dot sight reticle as a teaching aid. With the sextant, is there an adjacent side, much less a bendy one?

The thumbnail is another example of angular size, using your hand as a guide to measure the angular size of objects in the sky. Next full moon see if if you can use your little finger to estimate its angular size (hand at arm's length). The angular size of the moon is roughly 1/2 degree.
