One of the CDs I ordered has finally arrived! I wasted no time in getting to work on this and completed this in a couple of hours. I had the idea in my head for quite some time. This song is from another of Sondheim's classic musicals "Company." "Company" is one of those shows where the plot leaves a lot to be desired but many of the songs are amazing. This one was definitely my favorite from the show and one of Sondheim's best in my opinion. I remember hearing the OBC of this song and thinking, "Eh." But this version was sung to absolute perfection by Raul Esparza, and I felt that it fits Fakir very well.
Basically I have cast Fakir as the main character from "Company," Bobby. After relentless pushing from the other characters to find someone to love, he begins to have lingering feelings for Ahiru. But he is still very reluctant to give up being single. In the song he is trying to justify his reluctance, but he can no longer deny how he feels for Ahiru. Unfortunately, at the end of the song, there is an extremely annoying tapping noise that I could just not get rid of, which is weird since I didn't see any major scratches on the CD. And it's also a shame because that was my favorite moment in the song. So please ignore it and enjoy the video. The song is "Being Alive."
Lyrics: (after all the talking)
Somebody hold me too close,
Somebody hurt me too deep,
Somebody sit in my chair
And ruin my sleep
And make me aware
Of being alive,
Being alive.
Somebody need me too much,
Somebody know me too well,
Somebody pull me up short
And put me through hell
And give me support
For being alive,
Make me alive.
Make me confused,
Mock me with praise,
Let me be used,
Vary my days.
But alone is alone, not alive.
Somebody crowd me with love,
Somebody force me to care,
Somebody make me come through,
I'll always be there,
As frightened as you,
To help us survive
Being alive,
Being alive,
Being alive!
