We meditate on the offerings of bread and wine which we bring to the altar, and which signify our own lives and struggles that God transforms into the body and blood of the risen Christ. The images in the song remind us of the words by Saint Irenaeus od Lyon: The Church alone offers this pure oblation to the Creator, when she offers what comes forth from his creation with thanksgiving.

“Loving and Forgiving” by Scott Soper is a poetic adaptation of Psalm 103 one of the common psalms for Ordinary Time; it may also be used for weddings, reconciliation, anointing of the sick, and funerals. This arrangement should be performed simply in a gentle, legato style. Piano and guitar both work well on this piece; the SATB choral parts add interest (especially if added only on the latter refrains and verses) but may be considered optional.
